April's Tie of the Month

I have a friend that is the same age as me, who, in a recent Facebook status, let it be known that she had a crush on a younger man, well, more than a crush. At some point she was called a “cougar” (or called herself one…), and a discussion ensued on the proper terminology of that slang term. Myself, I told her that I didn’t think we could technically be considered cougars at our age. I’m of the thinking that the terms applies, at its youngest, to women in their late thirties, seeking men in their early twenties. I don’t even agree with the term, in reality, and I’m not alone.

However, I don’t think finding younger men attractive makes me a “cougar”. The sad thing is, they get younger every year, as I get older.

It is, also, a great thing when someone can admit they were wrong. Now, I don’t fall into the original Zac Efron fan club, having never been subjected to High School Musical or any of its sequels. I’ve even been guilty of directly stating that his fifteen minutes were fast approaching their end. However, his recent stint on SNL has not only made me eat my words, but it made me laugh enough to put him into consideration for tie-of-the-month. Especially with the performance of this skit:

It’s not just Zac Efron that I swoon for, having to remind myself that he’s legal, he’s legal, he’s legal…. Shia is another young man that’s still got a lock on the older woman fan base, last time I checked, anyway:

Jesse McCartney might surprise you, as a younger man that I constantly have to remind myself that he’s legal, he’s legal, he’s legal. In all fairness, I’ve had to remind myself that SINCE he became legal, because I’ve been a fan since before then, but only with his recent…. (ahem) maturation… have I put him in the “ogle-ing” list:

But, the most surprising young barely-old-enough-to-be-legal crush I seem to have, comes, strangely enough from The Biggest Loser. I took a break from watching the show for a few week… and when I turned it back on, I looked at Mike and thought, WOW, he’s kind of good looking. The makeover episode last week put the boy in a tie, and I instantly had a “wow” moment. Maybe it was the whole tie, sweater vest combo, I don’t know. All I do know is, the kid looks H-O-T (and the fact that I call him a kid, disturbs me greatly…). I find myself torn because I want Kristen to win, but I keep hoping Mike will stay on the show, just so I can continue to ogle… errr, I mean, monitor his progress. I don’t even know what it is about him, he’s just a good-looking young man. (If anyone can find me a photo of that young man in his sweater vest / tie combo, I’d appreciate it..)

Never fear, though, I may crush on younger men, but they just don’t do it for me… There’s something to be said for (coughs) experience (coughs)…

    Go Cougars!

  2. I’m all for cougars myself. I’ve even dated a few. Nothing wrong with a girl dating who she wants. Just like there’s nothing wrong with a guy dating who he wants. Just as long as it’s legal. Or at least over 21.

If you follow the link, you’ll find that it’s not a matter of women dating who they want that’s an issue… it’s a matter of glorifying mostly over 40-year-old women who just want to get laid and are scraping the bottom of the barrel by going for the easy target in the under 25-year-old men…

Same difference with glorifying a sugar daddy, or a man, having a mid-life crisis, going after a woman half his age.

I agree, there’s nothing wrong with it… but the fact that it’s being glorified as of late, is just ridiculous. We don’t glorify the man with his mid-life crisis, and yet, women are supposedly looking at this “model” and being told that it’s “empowering”. It’s not. It’s sad and tragic that many women give up a social life for their careers and, instead of developing meaningful relationships with men that they may have a future with, they’d rather just go for the one-night stand. I just find it tragic, but as you said, as long as it’s legal and it’s not hurting anyone else, there’s not much can be said.

It’s just not something I could see myself doing. I have heart palpitations over one measly year.

Something has “happened” to Zac Efron in the last 18 months that has made him indescribably magically delicious. If you had told me 2 years ago I would have scoffed! Have seen a few of his 17 Again promo interviews, and he’s hilarious! And very, very easy to look it. Actually, I think for me, it all started with Hairspray… A movie I WANTED to hate, but just couldn’t it was just so much fun!

He sure can rock that tie.

As for the cougar thing, the connotations are horrible. I like younger men. But I think that’s just because I was old before my time, and I’ve been making up for it :-P . All the men I meet that are my age are either divorced with kids (not that there’s anything wrong with that, I just haven’t had much luck with ‘em) or, the reasons they’ve never settled down become evident within about 5 minutes of being with them. My last two relationships were very fun, and they were both with younger men. Now there’s younger, then YOUNGER. My rule is, “noone I might have taught when I was a teacher…” Coz frankly… That’s just wrong!

  4. I love Shia and Zac. Especially Shia. *swoon*
