Friday Fun: The Abyss of Mommy Bloggers and The Internal Ice Cream Debate

mommy-bloggersSomehow, I got sucked into the Mommy Blog Zone. I don’t know how it happened and it was terrifyingly boring at some parts. This is not to say all Mommy Bloggers are boring, but, honestly? The majority of them are. The majority of them love scrapbooking and talking about every.single.detail of their day and every.single.detail of their child’s day. They claim they have no time, and yet, they socialize endlessly on blog sites – together. The modern day tea party or “coffee” time, I presume. (And, I understand how frightfully dull housework can be and how you can feel yourself slipping into a child coma, because you think you have no other adults to socialize with, I do… BUT, I don’t need to read about Timmy’s 3rd cold for the month. Those of you with children I adore, this excludes you.)

Yet, in this cluster there are a few great blogs to read, mostly because the blogs don’t specifically focus ONLY on the child and are often hilarious. In other words, the Mommies that run the following blogs, either take a hilarious look at their situation or they blog about other topics or both.

Happy Meals & Happy Hour

I, was, however, looking for some new blog reading material, to pimp out and to participate in. SO, if you have any suggestions, please leave them in the comments. (I’ll be updating my links page over the weekend, too, so it should be perfect timing, a win-win so to speak?)

Last night, I had the urge to get some ice cream… I’m an odd girl, because I LOVE ice cream when it’s cold and hot chocolate when it’s warm out. There was a chill in the air the other night, and so, I really wanted some ice cream.

Last year, Ben & Jerry’s put out this awesome Crème Brulee ice cream, and I looked for it all this past summer, to no avail. I was crushed, saddened. Apparently, once I’ve had B & J’s Crème Brulee, I don’t ever wanna go back to B & J’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Memories, I guess. I even looked up the website and went to the stores that were SUPPOSED to be selling the ice cream, put my face up to the Ben & Jerry section of the Ice Cream freezer and stared. I nearly pulled out all the cartons, just to double check, that’s how much in love I was with this ice cream.

Anyhow, I decided to get some Haagen-Dazs Green Tea ice cream last night. Technically, I knew I was going to go LOOK at Haagen-Dazs and probably come home with Green Tea, but I wasn’t one hundred percent sure. You see, I REALLY like Haagen-Dazs’s coffee flavour, as well – and who could discount chocolate. But, see, if I go with chocolate, then I HAVE to look for Blue Bell’s Dutch Chocolate. It’s a hard choice. good vs evilI walked up to the freezer section, starting first to look through the Ben & Jerry’s section again, all hopeful like. Yes, I’m really that pathetic, because when I find something I like, I REALLY like it. (Did I mention it had bits of real crème brulee pieces in it? I better stop, or I’ma cry.) Saw no Crème Brulee, but Ginger Snap? WTH?

I sighed. There was a boy trying to decide between a pint and a half gallon of Blue Bell. I know, I’ve been there before. He kept going back and forth and back and forth, but as I was in no hurry myself, I just let him block the Haagen-Dazs section, while I continued to glance. I saw the Green Tea easily enough, so I knew it was still available. (glares at Ben and Jerry) The boy left, after excusing himself for blocking the way, which I totally didn’t mind at all, but I was happy that he at least had manners. I looked over the selections, just wondering what was up in the land of Haagen-Dazs, when it popped out right in front of me.

Crème Brulee. Ice Cream. No.Way!

And, then, an intense power struggle overtook my soul. Green Tea versus Crème Brulee. My little devil appeared on my shoulder – that voice you HATE to listen to, but you know you’re going to do it anyway? Yeah – that evil bitch. She appeared and said, “Why don’t you get both?”

Honestly, I couldn’t think of a reason. I went blank. Maybe I was afraid because I hadn’t seen that evil devil in some time. The good angel was nowhere to be found. I was trapped – the devil “Bethany” made a lot of rational sense. (I would later spy the good angel with a black eye, stumbling her way back from the frozen bagel section to the car, limping, and just barely hopping back into the car as I sped off…)

Without the good angel, by my side, though, I was powerless to stop the devil’s intentions and so, I found myself pulling out both cartons, paying quickly, because OH MY GOD, there was a free cashier available, which never happens, and I took that as a sign that it was meant to be.

So, a review of the two flavours:

small evil in a tubThe Crème Brulee, as you can imagine is decadently rich. It tastes just like the custard part of the traditional dessert. I’m honestly going to be in trouble if Haagen-Dazs ever decides to make a Chocolate Crème Brulee. It was delicious, and if you’re wondering – it’s almost like a very rich vanilla.

The Green Tea? Meh. My verdict is still out. It doesn’t taste like other Green Tea ice creams I’ve had the pleasure of indulging in. Its after taste is a bit more harsh than I’m used to. Still, I’m not completely saying “no” to it. Mostly, I’m wondering if I’m being harsh on it, because I tasted that just after the Crème Brulee. I’ll update this tomorrow evening, and try it again.

There are so many good blogs out there. I don’t even want to say how many I subscribe to because it’s embarrassing….

I read all the ones you mentioned, and I really like the Aiming Low site. Funny, funny stuff!

Well thanks!!! I feel honored that you like my blog :)

And now I will be heading to the store tomorrow for some creme brulee ice cream, super, thanks *eyeroll* lol

I have never had the green tea but it sounds like it would be good… which brand is best?

ps… where is Sexy Saturday night?!?!?!? *evil grin*

    • Jaime says:

When in doubt, always choose Haagen-Dazs.

In fact, you should always just choose Haagen-Dazs.

I had to cancel this week’s Sexy Saturday Night, b/c I got a horrible sinus infection thing going on… It’s hard to sound sexy with a stuffed up nose and coughing every few minutes… ;o)

I fully intend to carry on with it next week… I promise…

The green tea wasn’t as great as I would have hoped for… If you can find another brand of the Green Tea ice cream, try that instead… I’ve had it from a lot of sushi restaurants and it was always better than what I had from Haagen-Dazs.

If you can find the Ben & Jerry’s Creme Brulee flavour there, try that, but if not, the Haagen-Dazs Creme Brulee was extremely scrumptious… Not a disappointment, just no bits of “real” creme brulee in the mix.

Ok I will see what I can find. I have been sort of a shut in lately. Not really up for much shopping and what little I have done I didnt think of ice cream because my brain is mush. So I will try to remember next time I am out.

I happened across the Haagan Dazs Crème Brulee when I was at the supermarket earlier today, and I just had to pick it up based on your comments – couldn’t find any from Ben & Jerry’s though. I haven’t had it yet, and I am really hoping the roommates stay away from it, perhaps I should have hidden it in the back of the fridge instead of leaving it so tantalizingly available.

I’ve never actually had Crème Brulee, but it always looks quite appealing on one of the (too many) cooking shows we watch at work.

You really should try the dessert somewhere… A lot of restaurants serve it. In Houston, it’s served at a cute little cafe… Although, it’s better at one of the higher end restaurants, I must say… ;o)

I hope you get a chance to try it..

One of my favorite semi-mommy blog is Barefoot Foodie
    http://barefootfoodie.com/

She is HILARIOUS! Wait until you read about her taking her husband for his vasectomy follow-up with all her kids in tow. Pure genius. It is funny because it is so real.

  8. dawnzer says:

Oh… and I will be in the land of Ben & Jerry’s next week – we are actually doing the factory tour on Sunday. I will have to scope out the creme brulee.

  9. Adrienne says:

My Fiance brought me some creme brulee ice cream this summer and it changed my life!! No, seriously, for me it was THAT GOOD. Sad part is, it’s not available for sale in Atlanta where I live. He works at a hotel and their supplier was able to get some, but the closest available retailer is a whole state away in Alabama!! This weekend, I had some friends in town from AL, and I asked him to bring with him as many pints as he could. Thankfully, I now have a freezer full of the stuff..
