Honestly, I think that if it was added to the gymnastics routines, it wouldn't be much different that the floor or similar. I think that if it is done in a different setting, ie all lights on, regular gymnastics attire, etc, then it would fine. That's just my take on it. If you think about it, dancing in general can be taken to a "dirty" level any time. It all depends on the arena. So, I don't think it would send a bad message at all. *shrug*

I've called a woman a "bitch" before, because she was being complete heartless and rude to me, treating me as if I were an animal. To me, that's the main implication of bitch, a person who treats other people like animals (and thus, therefore, they are one). She slapped me. Haha. I guess she didn't agree.

Anyways, words are words are words. They can be powerful or powerless, depending on who's speaking and who's listening. I personally think negativity should be powerless. Though sure, people can make me feel bad by saying bad things to me, I don't think I should feel bad. And anyways, it's not the words themselves that matter, it's the opinions of the people behind those words that matter, that's what's in the weight of a word. So if the weight is light, why not use bad words? They can be humorous, even, they can be friendly, they can even be formed into compliments. And besides, the meanings of words change over time. Language is a living thing, it is far from static, it is constantly flowing and changing as accepted meanings are changing. If there were dictionaries from Shakespeare's time, you'd find that they are completely different than those from our time. Even many of the same words are completely different.

I disagree about the word being well divorced from its original meaning - I think there's such thing as dual meaning, for the word gay, but not "bitch". In the dictionary, when you look up the word, there are two negative connotations, and the first definition is, "a female dog". The second meaning, even states, "derogatory".

I don't think the "n" word should be used at all, the "c" word is acceptable in erotica, but bitch is like the "n" word - it's really not acceptable anywhere, in my opinion, except maybe in reference to dogs. I mean, if we're going to have unacceptable words to use in this world, regardless of their context, I would rank bitch right up there.

I like the word bitch as an insult. It essentially has two meanings nowdays, the first being the one you mentioned which now extends to submissive women ( and men) and the second refers to a woman who's unfeeling and uncaring and this usage is well divorced from its origins (much like the word gay). Because the second usage relies on actions it is seems better than the n-word and the c-word is far more vulgar when used as an insult.

As for owning and re-claiming the word, it can be used as a show of power by women as in "i'm a bitch because i no longer care". Much is the same as the n-word being used by african-americans, but in either case I do agree that it's a false statement of empowerment.

I'm not a fan of Valentine's Day, but I'm not one of the ones that hate it either.

The last couple of years (including some in which I was still married), I've spent the day alone or with my kids. No biggie. I'm used to it. This year I may actually go watch a movie by myself or perhaps have lunch with another lonesome friend. Cupid will NOT get to me. Nope.
