This is not a photograph of lovers, this is a 400 year old marble statue of Pluto and Proserpina. Mind blown.

I’ve seen this in person, and it is truly MINDBOGGLING.

Smeared Skies by Matt Molloy

Matt busted out into the art scene with his smeared sky photos. Stacking 100 to 200 photos into one, he gave a new way to enjoy the view above us.

Blue Ocean Floor | Justin Timberlake

The lyrics… pure elegance of a true emotional connection:

Frequencies so low
Heart on a string
Rain made of echoes
Tidal wave rushing on and on

Under the water you scream so loud, but the silence surrounds you
But I hear it loud and you fall in the deep and I’ll always find you
If my red eyes don’t see you anymore
And I can’t hear you through the white noise

Just send your heartbeat
I’ll go to the blue ocean floor
Where they’ll find us no more
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor

Shell made out of gold
Found on a beach,
Picked up and you held so close
Rain washed out its glow,
Heart beat steady leads me down below

Under the water you scream so loud, but the silence surrounds you
But I hear it loud and you fall in the deep and I’ll always find you
If my red eyes don’t see you anymore
And I can’t hear you through the white noise

Just send your heartbeat
I’ll go to the blue ocean floor
Where they’ll find us no more
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor

20,000 leagues away, catch up to you on the same day
Travel at the speed of light, thinking the same thought at the same time
Heart beats at a steady pace, I’ll let the rhythm show me the way
No one can find us here, fade out and disapper

If my red eyes don’t see you anymore
And I can’t hear you through the white noise

Just send your heartbeat
I’ll go to the blue ocean floor
Where they’ll find us no more
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor
On that blue ocean floor

girlsandguns:

Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s, performing art out of the van they lived in. When they felt the relationship had run its course, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again. At her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing it and this is what happened.

ugh this part kills me < / 3

I’ve seen the photos floating around, but the full moment is exquisite to experience.

(NSFW: there is a brief touch of nudity at the very beginning that has nothing to do with the story, but is art. So, if you’re worried, please do not watch where eyes may judge you.)

50 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy welcomed the Mona Lisa to America. And yesterday, Caroline Kennedy welcomed Picasso to the JFK Library!
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum have teamed up to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis with a loan of Pablo Picasso’s larger-than-life masterpiece, Rape of the Sabine Women (1963), a painting inspired by the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Caroline Kennedy, President of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, and Malcolm Rogers, Ann and Graham Gund Director of the MFA, unveiled the painting in a ceremony at the JFK Library this afternoon, marking the first-ever loan from the MFA to the JFK Library.
The arrival of Picasso’s painting will also celebrate the Kennedy legacy of the arts and culture in the White House. Both Jacqueline and President Kennedy were dedicated to recognizing the arts during their White House years, and invited numerous painters, musicians, and writers to various functions.
Most notably, French Minister of Culture Andre Malraux famously honored the president and first lady by promising Mrs. Kennedy at the end of a state dinner that he would send to her France’s most famous cultural treasure, La Giaconda, also known as the Mona Lisa.
In December 1962, a special loan was made directly to the President of the United States and the American people by the government of the French Republic. Malraux accompanied the painting to the United States where more than 700,000 people saw it at the National Gallery of Art and more than a million others viewed it at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. President Kennedy expressed his appreciation for the loan and stated, “We will continue to press ahead to develop an independent artistic force and power of our own.”
Rape of the Sabine Women will go on display next to the Cuban Missile Crisis film and exhibit at the JFK Library tomorrow, and will be on view through January 6, 2013.
