50 Years Ago Today - Mercury 7 Astronauts Visit the White House
(From L-R): Major L. Gordon Cooper, Lieutenant Colonel Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom, Major Donald K. “Deke” Slayton, Lieutenant Commander Walter Schirra, Lieutenant Commander M. Scott Carpenter, Commander Alan B. Shepard, and their wives visit the White House
You know what my favourite episode of “From the Earth to the Moon” was? It was the one that featured the wives. I think it was the second to last episode to be aired, but it featured the toll that the ambitions of astronauts placed on their families, especially their wives.
So, I have to ask… we couldn’t take the time to identify the women in this photo? Seriously? To honour the help they were to the space program - how they were constant promoters of how “excited and proud” they were, when they were probably scared out of their minds that they would never see their husbands again? These women were a crucial part of the Space program… they should be honoured, too.

A casual day in the White House.
This is one of my favourite photos of the two of them.

Jackie thanking America for their letters after Jack was killed. This was in early ‘64.
She aged a good five years in the span of a few months. Grief just ages you.

James Marsden as John F. Kennedy! Minka Kelly as Jackie! The Butler is full of famous faces playing famous presidents. Who do you think was accurately cast?
Hmm though I like James Marsden, I wish Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes could play them again since they portrayed them so well in the miniseries but what actor wants to play the same people over again? (Hugh Jackman ;] ) But who knows, maybe they’ll be great!(:
hmm. hmmm. hmm.
I am undecided…
I really liked Katie Holmes and Greg Kinnear…
I’m just really really picky on who plays Jackie like they have to have the voice down or they can just gtfo
I like Minka. I hope she’ll do Jackie justice, and she’s a better actress than Katie Holmes.
Jill Hennessy has so far been my favourite “Jackie”, in Jackie, Ethel, Joan: The Women of Camelot. Available on Hulu.

“I couldn’t believe she was gone. I always expected I’d be dead long before her. God knows I should have been. I never imagined what it would feel like to no longer have her in the world. Hardly a week has gone by without a photo of her in some magazine, some tabloid — the kinds she always used to have me buy so she could see what was being said about her. And every time I saw a paparazzi-snapped picture, I knew exactly what she was thinking in every shot. I could see it in her eyes. There were no secrets from me in those eyes.
We had gone through so much together, Mrs. Kennedy and me.
I sat there, staring at the television set, the images of her playing over and over, my memories right there on the screen. I was overcome with a deep sense of loss. The tears streamed down my face, and I was not ashamed.”- Clint Hill, Jackie Kennedy’s Secret Service Agent
