Although the Civil Wars are still on indefinite hiatus amid “internal discord and irreconcilable differences of ambition,” which caused the abrupt cancelation of an entire tour last fall, the folk-pop duo is making good on its promise to release new music in 2013. The follow-up to their acclaimed 2011’s debut Barton Hollow, will arrive at an unspecified date late this summer.
What I miss most about living in the Emerald City, birthplace of Starbucks is that on almost every corner, there was a little shack where you could get coffee. Didn’t like this place - there was another one down the road. The best places always had lines, even at 6 p.m. at night.
Most of those places were better than Starbucks. The fact of the matter is, Starbucks is just convenient. Not the best cup of coffee, but it’s convenient.
…and, if you get the “Gold Card”, you get a free drink on your birthday in addition to getting one after purchasing 12 drinks.
But, even better? If you get the Starbucks App, they send you weekly messages about things available in iTunes - mostly music, but a couple of weeks ago it was the Star Wars version of Angry Birds.
You’ve all seen those cards waiting by the register or where you pick up your drinks. I can’t tell you how many of them I’ve picked up but never gotten home to put the code in. With the App? It does it for you.
And, there’s a wide variety of music that is selected for the weekly song and much better than the iTunes free weekly song, which doesn’t have the best track record. The song I just posted? ”Easy to Love” by Ivan and Alyosha? That was one of the free songs I got a message about a month or so ago. Two weeks ago, it was Justin Timberlake’s Strawberry Bubblegum.
So, even though they don’t make the best cup of coffee, at least they give you free music, which is relatively easy to access and you can actually hear a full song before deciding whether or not to check out the artist in full. (I still usually do, just because… )
Most of you may already know this, but for the few that don’t? Well… there ya go. :o)
Here’s The National performing their song “I Need My Girl” as a web exclusive.
