I’d nearly forgotten how much I love to see him just play…

Dear Netflix:

Being a political junkie, I have waited patiently for Kevin Spacey’s new original Netflix Drama, House of Cards, and every time I go to the site, there’s no place to remind me, email me, what have you, of the date that episodes will come available.  I can’t put it in my “Instant Queue”, I’m guessing I have to wait until February 1st, to do so?  This is kind of poor planning, isn’t it?  Aren’t you planning for failure.  Where’s the opportunity for people to say, “OH! Kevin Spacey is in a new online original show, let me subscribe to it now so I can see it when it becomes available!”

As it is, you’re asking the average consumer to be so wowed by a trailer that they will forget about their daily lives and mark down 1 February 2013 as a MUST SEE day for the debut of this show.  Speaking as one of your consumers who does want to see this show, I all but forgot about it until just a moment ago.  In fact, earlier this evening I was wondering when the new “political” show that Kevin Spacey was supposed to be in would be on, but I couldn’t tell you what it was called, and I knew I’d have to search Google to find out, and… as much as I wanted to watch it, I didn’t do it just then.  For me, I’m just wondering how many people you’ve lost who saw any amount of marketing or publicity you’ve already done for this show, went, “Wow!  That sounds amazing!” and had no way to set a future notification up.

This sounds like something you should probably fix if you’re going to look into expanding into further original programming.

Just a thought,

b

RFK Jnr’s Daughter in ‘The Newsroom’

Robert F. Kennedy’s granddaughter has nabbed her first big acting break: Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy has scored a role in Aaron ‘The West Wing’ Sorkin’s HBO pilot. The Newsroom, a show about cable news, also stars such boldface names as Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Olivia Munn, and Dev Patel. Of course, Hollywood is nothing new for the Kennedy clan: Kathleen’s great-grandfather, Joseph P. Kennedy, formed one of the Big Five studios.

Catch it every Sunday on HBO at 10pm EST

On its first programming night a quarter-century ago, this network aired two shows:The Tracey Ullman ShowandMarried… With Children(starring Katey Sagal and Ed O’Neill, above).
Yep, the Fox network is turning 25 years old.

It’s crazy to think that they were featuring a sitcom showcasing their target base.  I mean, who else to better represent the tea party crazies than Al Bundy? The only exception, even Al Bundy had a bit of a soft side at times.

Aaron Sorkin on His New HBO Show, The Newsroom, and His Style of “Musical Dialogue” | Vanity Fair
The trick with Aaron, which I think makes this the ultimate challenge is that you have to learn a Broadway play every week. We’re not walking around the corner holding a gun, going, ‘Look out!’ We’re coming around the corner and doing Sorkin, and that’s a whole other thing. And it’s Sorkin at 90 miles an hour, because there’s a musicality, there’s a rhythm to him. Dialogue that has to come out of your mouth, snap-snap—and not just actors talking fast. These [characters] are very smart people, they think fast and they talk fast, and those listening have to keep up.

—Jeff Daniels on Aaron Sorkin. (Also check out Sorkin On Set.)

Which was why the West Wing ruled.  Smart characters talking about smart stuff, fast and quick.  God, it was such a rush every Wednesday.  I miss it.   Can’t wait for this show.

TV Promo: HBO’s The Newsroom

From Aaron Sorkin, starring Jeff Daniels. Emily Mortimer, Alison Pill, Dev Patel, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Thomas Sadoski , Sam Waterston, and Jane Fonda.

Holy. shit. It’s like the best parts of Sports Night, West Wing, and Studio 60 rolled into one. Also, don’t think that opening tirade didn’t recall the Studio 60 pilot, Mr. Sorkin.

OMG - it’s like Toby Ziegler as an anchor.  And also: AWESOME!  I so excite!
