I Was Detained and Interrogated at the Border for Carrying Condoms

What do you do when you’re detained by powerful officials, everything you say is presumed deceptive, arbitrary “evidence” is held against you, and you’re treated like a moral deviant? And what if its 2013, you’re a woman, and the “evidence” is that you possess condoms? It happened three times in two weeks — being detained by U.S. border officials on my way to or through the States. “I could have you charged with being a working girl! The proof is right here!” All I could do is shake my head. This can’t be real.

For real, though…. women that tell me, “oh, I don’t vote…” or, “I’m not political” (in a whisper voice as if it’s something I should be ashamed of), or “let me talk to my husband, we decide who to vote for together…” really annoy the shit out of me.

Especially when you consider what it took to get the vote…

Politics decides your daily life, from how bumpy your streets are, to what your children are taught in schools, to whether or not you can have access to a safe medical procedure, to what food is available at the grocery store and who’s monitoring it… so, how dare you not vote or think that’s something to be ashamed to care about.

BREAKING: North Dakota becomes first state to ban all abortions

The War on Women is still going strong. Heartbreaking news, because legally banning all abortions, doesn’t mean that they won’t happen, it just means that women will either have to drive to another state to have the procedure done or they will find alternative, dangerous, and lethal alternatives.

Let me guess, the North Dakota legislature is run by WASP men?

Unfortunately these Republican Congressmen think that the laws they make that apply to their constituents do not apply to their families. A Congressman can easily afford to have his or her daughter fly out of the country to take care of an unplanned pregnancy, and daughters of privilege, just like sons of privilege, have easier access to high quality health care and education, while also being given golden tickets once they do graduate to opportunities that their classmates can only dream of wistfully.

Don’t be fooled - the GOP has no reason to help either the middle class or lower class woman, because they do NOT understand her struggle and to think that their daughters would face that same kind of life or even seriously understand it is the height of ignorance.
